    Raider

Mechwarrior Kain seemed to excel when piloting small Mechs.  Though he
typically displayed great talents in any Mech, Kain fought with unknown fury on
occasions that he was pitted against larger Mechs.  He had much experience in
this role while working as a raider along Nova Cat/Ghost Bear borders.  After
watching several of the Striker’s Inner Sphere members pilot scout Mechs,
Kain’s curiosity increased with regards to jump jets.  He began using his
Dragonfly’s jets to maneuver himself with greater agility.  Though his Clan
would normally prohibit physical combat, Kain tried his hand at it.  He
commonly used his jump jets to perform the Inner Sphere’s famous "death from
above" tactic.  Kain seemed to be learning the move after practicing several
times with veteran Norbert Owens.  Kain’s starmates often questioned his use
of physical combat, but Star Commander Cecil eventually recognized Kain’s
tactics as a good way to adapt to Inner Sphere warfare.  Since that recognition,
Kain had increased his efforts to master the difficult skill.  Because of the small
size of the Viper when compared to the heavy and assault Mechs of Kain’s star,
his opponents often underestimated the threat he posed as an individual
warrior.  Many enemy Mechwarriors realized their mistakes too late, taken
off-guard immediately by the use of physical attacks from a Clan design and
    Clan pilot.
Kain was killed in 3068 while fighting against Blakists in their attack on the
Strikers’ temporary barracks.  He had just earned glory in the previous weeks
working with Sasha Breen to defeat a superior force of the Blakists in a
challenge of vengeance for the loss of Clan commander Devon Carns.  Kain
died defending several APC units carrying both Striker crews and their families.
He pitted himself against one too many assault Mechs, an unfortunate necessity
in protecting the retreating forces on their way to a nearby Dropship.  Kain was
able to bring one of his opponents down using his physical fighting tactics, but
he was under-gunned.  Eventually he was teamed up on by the remaining
Mechs.  He finally fell to a Rifleman and Battlemaster, who had together
destroyed his Mechs’ jump jets with autocannon fire.
