Veteran Commander
A quiet woman, Maria Perez fought in many battles during her lifetime. Despite
her age, she had weathered 3 near-death experiences. Maria was a lance
commander for the last 20 years of her military career. She specialized in light
and medium BattleMechs. The Inner Sphere’s new Blitzkrieg Mech was her
latest favorite. She had purchased the Mech shortly before signing onto the
Strikers. Under Maria’s guide, the Mech’s powerful Ultra class 20 Autocannon
tore apart most any enemy Mech she encountered. Maria was immediately
ranked as lance leader when being hired onto the Strikers, primarily for her
previous commanding experience. Though her lance saw relatively little combat
with the Strikers, Commanders Carns and Strider had high expectations of the
unit.
Maria was quiet and soft-spoken. She typically only spoke when necessary
during fierce combat. Her tactical skills seemed quite strong according to
historical records. She earned many lance versus lance victories, as well as
successfully organizing emergency retreats.
Maria was killed during an attempt to warn her immediate superior, Sir Owen
Hardcastle, of a Blakist threat looming in the area that her lance had been
patrolling. Though they met little resistance from Blakists on the ground,
airborne units were tracking their every move as they tried to reach the nearest
com-relay station. The airborne forces soon vanished as Maria and her forces
neared their destination, but victory was not to be.
Before the group could signal from the station, Blakist units desperately struck
out at the lance with orbital bombardment. It had been the Word of Blake’s last
option in silencing the group, and the sheer devastation wrought by the
naval-grade PPCs robbed Maria and her lancemates of their last minute chance.
As a result of the lance’s failure, the temporary H.Q. set up in the Gustus
Mountains was attacked with little warning.
