    Recovering Pilot

Tom’s hiring is rooted firmly in his experience as a Mechwarrior.  With over 10
battlefield commendations and more than 20 confirmed kills to his name,
‘Rooster’ has hard proof of his service in the Free Worlds League military.
Instrumental in the Marik attacks on Steiner space, a bid by Captain-General
Thomas Marik to reclaim lost worlds, Tom drove back Federated
Commonwealth forces time and again with the help of his lancemates.
Unfortunately the last of his battles during this conflict resulted in scars and
nerve damage that left Tom unsure of his lifestyle.  He was able to take sick
leave for several months, but his internal struggle was far from finished at the
end of his leave.  Not knowing what else to do, he put in his resignation after
being assured by his superiors that he could return anytime he was ready.
Eventually Tom came to terms with his new condition, a medical disability that
damaged his nervous system so much that it severely affected his piloting and
gunnery abilities.  Though Tom knew it would be hard passing the FWLM’s tests
again, he tried anyways.  He failed countless times and lost hope in reaching his
old posting.  Even his old commanders could do nothing to help him when it
came to passing the simplest of medical exams.
Finally Tom tried his luck with mercenary units.  He knew he could always work
on his own if he tried to do so.  However he was not very interested in that
possibility.  Tom soon found an opening with the Crusaders and applied for the
job.  Commander de Payens believed Tom’s battlefield experience would be
invaluable to the unit and accepted him despite his disability.
Tom constantly trains himself in vigorous physical therapy exercises.  He is
slowly regaining his fine motor skills in both hands and has shown significant
improvement through his recent campaign against Blakist forces.  If his
progress continues at its current rate, he should have average piloting abilities
    within the next few years.
